O'Carolan Heritage Park
The park was a derlict site when it was acquired by Roscommon County Council in 1992 for the benefit of the Community.
Keadue Tidy Towns and The O'Carolan Harp Festival Committees decided to develop the area as a park in commemoration of Turlough O'CAROLAN {1670-1738}, Harper and Composer, who is buried in nearby Kilronan Cemetry.
With assistance from the then County Manager, local Councillors and F.A.S., along with funding from Arigna Leader, The Ireland Fund, other contributors and a massive input of community voluntary labour the work was completed in 1993. The O'Carolan Heritage Park was officially opened by Cardinal Cahal Daly during the O'Carolan Harp Festival of that year.
The sculpture located in the centre of the park was designed and created by Sculptor Fred Conlon. The bronze harp displayed on the granite rock is a replica of the harp which would have been played by O'Carolan.
